Imphal is a beautiful town located in the extreme east of India with a population of 217275 (as per 2001 census) and has an average elevation of 786 meters (2578 feet).

Imphal is covered with many beautiful tourist spots. One of the most important among them is Wangkhei, a temple of lord Govinda jee. The place is also famous for Handloom Products and Hand Made Products. Lot of people all around the world visit this place. Other important places of tourist interest are Manipur Zoological Gardens, War Cemeteries, and Manipur State Museum.

Imphal also witnesses a sub-tropical climate with cool and dry winters, a warm summer and a moderate monsoon season. July is the hottest month with temperatures averaging around 25 degree C, January is the coldest with average lows near 4 degree C. The city gets about 1320 mm (52 inches) of rain with June being the wettest month.

Ningol Chakouba is the social festival of Manipuris, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm every year.
